The Department of Graphic Design Technology was created from the former Fine Art Department in 2008. Its programmes develop skills and knowledge for technical and artistic industries, while supporting entrepreneurial ambition.
Rooted in applied arts education, the department combines making, critique, technical development and responsible visual communication.
This milestone recognises a department dedicated to the creativity, skills and confidence students need for work in the graphic design world.
It celebrates learning across visual communication, research, studio practice and the professional pathways that connect students with industry and community.

KEY MILESTONES
Our Journey Through Time
1992
Tertiary Foundation
Polytechnic education gained tertiary status, creating the setting for HND Commercial Art programmes.
2007
Academic Framework
The Polytechnic Act provided an avenue for new tertiary programmes and further academic development.
2008
Department Created
Graphic Design Technology was created from the former Fine Art Department.
2023
Programme Development
The department continued programme review and development across HND, B.Tech and M.Tech pathways.
